Florists expect not-so happy Valentine’s Day

“We are still hoping for more customers and better sales despite the fact that the economy is down,” the management of Blossoms Floral said.

Usually, this season brings many customers to their store.

But management noted that this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday.

“We usually have more clients if Valentine’s Day falls on a weekday, but since it is a Sunday, we expect fewer clients.”

Design Florists, another floral shop, said Valentine’s Days on weekends are not good since “people usually go out on a date on Sundays which means flowers are no longer needed.”

Other floral shops such as Island Floral and Floral Carie said they are beefing up their marketing and promotional strategies to encourage people to buy flowers for their loved ones — even on a Sunday.

“What we do is we invite couples and people we personally know to buy flowers from us as early as possible,” Island Floral said.

Management said they are expecting fewer sales but are still “hopeful of the possibility that things will be okay with business this year.”
