Winnie Gonzales, a younger brother of Larry Gonzales, said in a telephone interview they would be meeting with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to retrieve the body of his brother at the airport.
Several friends of Larry Gonzales, 37, joined his cousin Celedenio Garcia Manibo, 55, during the last viewing and Mass at the Commonwealth Health Center’s chapel Tuesday night.
Larry Gonzales’ 17-year-old former girlfriend arrived with her mother and other relatives.
The girl, a student at Kagman High School, will turn 18 this July. Variety learned that the couple was planning to get married this year.
The girl broke down into tears and sobbed uncontrollably as she viewed his remains.
It was learned that she visited her former boyfriend shortly before he died at CHC’s intensive care unit on March 4, 2010.
She is still coping with the situation, her relatives said.
Larry Gonzales died after being assaulted by a 22-year-old man, a former boyfriend of the Kagman student.
One of the male friends of Larry Gonzales showed the peso bills that the victim gave him.
“I kept the money he gave to me,” he said.
People recalled the good things about Larry Gonzales, who won the “Mr. Suave” singing contest years ago.
Ester Gracia, who is handling the funds generated for the victim’s family, said a family donated $1,300 on Tuesday night.
The support for Larry Gonzales from the local and Filipino communities was overwhelming, she said.
The funds will be sent to his parents in Pinamalayan, Mindoro Oriental, an island province south of Manila.
His brother Winnie said the nine-year-old daughter of Larry will also be at the Manila airport to welcome the remains of her father.
Winnie Gonzales said they are very thankful for all the assistance and support of the CNMI as he reiterated his family’s confidence in the commonwealth justice system.
