Volunteers needed to clean up after July 4th parade

Joe Kaipat of  DEQ said  this is the second year that they are forming a cleanup team for the event.

“What happens is that after the parade, hundreds of tons of trash will be left lying around. Before the cleaners come around, most of the trash will fly or roll to the sea like plastic, food and candy wrappers, cans, water bottles and other trash and we would like to prevent that,” Kaipat said.

Some staff from DEQ, CRM, Beautify CNMI and the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance will act as an advance party to distribute trash bags and gloves to the people during the parade, he added.

He said groups, organizations and individuals are welcome to volunteer for the cleanup.

“Just show up at the starting point of the parade on Sunday morning,” Kaipat said. “Everybody is welcome to volunteer.”
