SEAS acting principal Sibylla Guerrero is confident that their students have enough time to practice in preparation for the competition.
“They practice almost every day,” said Guerrero, who also coaches the students.
The school, she added, is very proud of these students.
Marianas High School instructor Harold Easton, the Thespian Society director, also helps prepare the students.
Last March, SEAS students Maria Castro won the gold medal in monologue; Anabel Manzo and Amy Liu topped duet acting; Christine Aninzo and Jackilyn Rafols finished first in pantomime; and Hopwood Junior High School Jenella Nelmidawas solo musical winner.
These students are the CNMI’s representatives to the junior division.
The commonwealth’s national team is composed of Marianas High School students Wilden Mangahis, Rozette Bunao, Rochelle Dimapilis, Dowen Jocson, Adeleyah Mojica and Kevin Jardinero, Saipan Southern High School’s Ann Mariel Flores and Kagman High School Miki Dela Cruz.
The group will compete against others teams from the states and territories in Lincoln, Nebraska from June 21 to 26.
Guerrero said thespian events help students expand their artistic capabilities and imagination through stage plays and performances that build character and confidence.
The participating CNMI students were the top performers in their contest categories during the first four preliminary rounds throughout the year.
On June 17, the group will stage a play, “Pullman Car Hiawatha,” at American Memorial Park at 6 p.m.
The group also performed at the recently held Art Exhibit and Performance Festival at Hopwood Junior High School and at William S. Reyes, Gregorio T. Camacho, Oleai and Koblerville elementary schools.
