Flood’s short novel, “Warriors in the Crossfire,” is set on island and tells of the experiences of a Carolinian boy and his half-Japanese cousin on the eve of the Battle of Saipan.
Copies of the book will be sold at $17.95 each.
Joeten-Kiyu Public Library children’s library associate Erlinda Naputi said Flood is also here to promote reading and writing among the children.
“We invite you all to come on Saturday and read Bo Flood’s books,” Naputi said.
Flood will also present a slideshow about the Navajo and Pacific culture at the public library starting at 6 p.m. on May 21.
Flood, now based in Arizona, is a former instructor of Northern Marianas College, and was the recipient of the 1997 CNMI Governor’s Award for the Literary Arts.
She has conducted workshops on child abuse, learning disabilities, play therapy and creative writing and has lived in Malawi, Africa, Hawaii, Japan, the Western Pacific, and most recently, on the Navajo Reservation.
Flood’s other books — “Marianas Island Legends,” “Pacific Island Legends,” The Navajo Year,” and “Sand to Stone and Back Again” — will also be available for sale on Saturday.
Naputi said they have not confirmed yet if Flood will be leaving copies for sale after Saturday’s launching.
