“Words cannot express the gratitude our Parent-Teacher Association, Student Council, and administration have for the tireless efforts of our teachers and staff in working with students,” school principal Joaquina Salas said.
She said the successes of their students are often linked to a positive interaction with a dedicated member of the school’s staff.
The appreciation week will recognize the effort of the teachers in the classroom, coaches on the field, teacher assistants, the specialists in the computer laboratory, library, and counselors, maintenance personnel and staff in the office.
“Students at San Vicente School feel love and support wrapped around them like a fuzzy blanket on a chilly night,” she said.
School registrar Donald San Nicolas said they have 32 regular teachers and 15 assistant and teacher aides.
The school has 641 students from kindergarten to sixth grade.
Yesterday, students expressed their appreciation to their teachers by giving them postcards.
Today, students will bring different kinds of fruits to their teachers.
On Wednesday, they will bring fresh flowers. On Thursday, their presents will be handmade leis.
San Nicolas said students were encouraged to presents fruits and flowers that can only be found in their backyard.
On Friday, the culmination of the program, students will give “surprise” presents to their teachers.
Last year, the PTA and the Student Council chose to honor the teachers with a special luncheon in the cafeteria.
Parents supervised students at the tables as the Student Council members served food to their teachers on the brightly decorated stage.
A slide show of special memories was played in the background and students stepped up to the microphone to talk about their appreciation to their teachers.
“Not a dry eye among them as teachers expressed their surprise and pleasure at such an honor,” Salas said.
She said the school is excited about Teacher Appreciation Week because this is an opportunity again for the PTA and Student Council “to showcase the beautiful shells that hold the pearls of our school…the teachers and staff of San Vicente.”
