Nogis appeared before visiting Federal Judge John C. Coughenour who informed the parties that they would be notified of a date for trial.
Nogis was accompanied by his counsels, former Rep. Joseph N. Camacho and former Assistant Attorney General Michael Evangelista who is now into private practice.
Nogis is the campaign manager of Camacho, the ruling Covenant Party’s candidate for congressional delegate.
Camacho told the court that he would get in touch with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the National Parks Service for discovery request.
Camacho told the Variety after the hearing that in the U.S. and the CNMI, democracy and the justice system allow people to present his or her side of the story.
For his part, Evangelista cautioned the public from concluding that Nogis is guilty.
Nogis was cited on April 26, 2010 due to “a large amount of litter” left at the park’s softball field following a political gathering that attended by the governor, Camacho and other Covenant Party supporters.
