Camacho cited American Bar Association’s Rule 2.11 for recusing himself in hearing the case of Juan Laniyo Norita Jr., 48, the judge’s distant relative.
Norita and his son Jerome Kaipat Norita, 23, were detained on charges of assault and battery, aggravated assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace.
Camacho retained the $16,250 bail order he imposed each on the defendants who were arrested last week.
Both parties have no objection to Camacho’s recusal during the hearing for the defendant’s bail modification on Wednesday.
Assistant Attorney General Nicole Driscoll is prosecuting the case.
Assistant Public Defender Benjamin Petersburg represents the elder Norita.
Variety talked to a relative of the 17-year-old victim, and said they would bring her to a dental clinic to check her jaw that was injured in the vehicular incident.
The driver of the vehicle, Pantaleon De Jillas, 70, also suffered injuries after he was punched and kicked by the Noritas as well as Fred Kaipat, police said.
De Jillas had a fractured left jaw that needed medical attention, police said.
Jerome punched him in the face, while the elder Norita and Kaipat took turns in kicking him, police said.
Ernie Matagolai De Jillas, the driver’s son who responded to help his father, suffered a bleeding right ear after he was tackled by the three individuals, police said.
Pantaleon told police he tried to avoid colliding with the victim who was then crossing the street on Flame Tree Road in Dandan.
After the impact, Pantaleon checked on the victim, but was assaulted by the defendants.
