Vincent Muna gets 14 days for stealing infant milk

Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Muna to six months imprisonment, all suspended, except for 14 days.

Muna will report to the Department of Corrections on Oct. 15, 2011, and will be released on Oct. 28, 2011.

He will be placed on two years’ probation upon release from prison.

Muna will write a letter of apology to Sara Market, detailing how this criminal conviction affects his family.

He will not have any contact with and will stay away from Sara Market for the period of his probation.

Muna will testify truthfully in any trial concerning another defendant based on the incident in this case, should one be filed, Wiseman ordered.

Muna will pay a $200 fine, a $25 court assessment fee, and $132.93 as restitution.

Police said Muna was identified on surveillance video at Sarah Market on Capital Hill where infant milk and other items were stolen last year.

On Aug. 22, 2010, at about 3:38 p.m., police were dispatched to the store, where a total of $132.93 worth of infant formula was stolen.

Preliminary investigation showed that based on the video footage, a Nissan Sentra pulled into the parking lot.

The operator was a male, while his companion was a female.

When the two entered the store, the female grabbed a yellow shopping basket, and  both headed toward the infant food and milk aisle, police said.

The male took a case containing six cans and put it inside the basket.

He took another can of powdered milk, and stuffed it  inside his pants.

Both exited the store.

The crime was discovered after the supervisor asked  staffers if the two individuals bought something before leaving the store.

The two  returned to the same store in the evening, police said.
