McGraw Hill crushes DFS, 100-64

Instead, team Public School System-McGraw Hill scored, 100-64 to hand DFS Galleria its second loss of the season in the 3rd Annual Shirley’s Invitational Basketball League at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

The Kelvin Fitial-led McGraw Hill notched their fifth win to tie with DFS, whose lackluster defense couldn’t survive Villacrusis’ outburst of three-pointers.

While DFS’ Dan Barcinas held on with 10 points in the first quarter, Pete Iguel fired only one basket in the entire first half. Iguel missed all his field goals until the third quarter, where he tallied six points on two three-pointers.

Fitial used height to his advantage, landing several layups and scoring 20 points. With the giant on a shooting-spree, Mel Manibusan struck in the defense and posted eight rebounds with two steals and an assist.

DFS approached the court shorthanded on Saturday and missed center Jack Lizama among a few other players.

Barcinas top scored with 24 points while Iguel and Junar Guiab squeezed in 10 apiece.

McGraw Hill spared no player on the bench, with Manibusan scoring nine, Marlon Cabrera adding eight, and Jacob Villagomez earning seven. Sablan and Villacrusis assured double-digit results with 17 and 14 points, respectively while Walter Mendez earned 13.

Team DFS inevitably collapsed after scoring no baskets in the last five minutes of the third quarter. 10 minutes later, McGraw Hill cruised away to an 89-51 lead.

Meanwhile, team Mobil rests ahead of the competition on a 6-1  record. McGraw Hill also only holds one loss. DFS and Fiesta Resort and Spa are even at five wins and two losses each.

Hyatt 89, Wushin 70

In the first game, Hyatt Regency Saipan swept Wushin, 89-70 to improve to a 2-4 record.

Jun Tabora scored nearly half of Wushin’s total with 33 points but was overrun by Mike Umali and Remart Castro, who had 19 each.

The victory was nearly flawless for Hyatt, who maintained a 10 point lead by the third quarter.

After several attempts, Wushin failed to even the game since falling eight points behind in the first half. Tabora and Ferdie Tobias carried most of Wushin’s load throughout the game, piling a combined 52 points.

Bernard Aquino, who scored 12, and Jeff Durant each tallied eight rebounds with the former snatching five assists and one steal. Mike Umali and Remart Castro tied for most assists at six apiece.

Christian Devero helped settle Hyatt’s offense, notching six of his 15 points in the final period. Chirjez Arreza totaled 11.

Wushin took another step back after recording their fifth loss.

Devero struck 11 rebounds and one steal.
