Former Rep. William S. Torres, consultant of the group organizing the upcoming Northern Islands Development Summit, identified Pagan as a possible site for the refilling station.
The volcanic island, he told development planners during its recent meeting, is feasible for any type of small-scale air and water transportation.
Jack Salas, IP&E Shell terminal manager on Saipan, asked the development planners if the Northern Islands development committee can submit a request for a refilling station plan.
He said IP&E Shell will discuss the request and come up with a design and other information regarding the operation of the refilling station.
Torres said transportation is not really a problem for the Northern Islands.
Jess Wabol, who chairs the group, said there is a vessel that transports people and supplies to the Northern Islands.
Torres asked Salas to explore all options concerning the design and the operation of the refilling station.
Architect Herman B. Cabrera, another member of the planning committee, said the establishment of the refilling station will be good for the redevelopment of the Northern Islands.
He said IP&E Shell should have different types of fuel for various kinds of vehicles and equipment that will be needed in the Northern Islands.
