Butch does it again

The course, which starts from the Commonwealth Health Center’s upper parking lot and ends at the bottom of Mt. Tapochau, was no match for Sublemente.

Butch beat the one hour mark and finished at 59 minutes and 41 seconds.

Second place finisher Ken Pierson didn’t come in until 10 minutes later, at 1:11:43.

Sublemente said he pulled away from the pack at the start, with only Gary Bandoja and Charlie Sendin at his side.

“At the Mt. Tapochau Road I just kept looking back making sure no one was behind me,” he added.

Sublemente also topped the MTBC’s Japan Relief Bike Race last April.

Noel Altamirano (1:18:46), Mark Isip (1:25:07), and Jay Santos (1:30:57) reached the championship course’s top five.

Gary Bandoja and Charlie Sendin came neck-and-neck at 36 minutes each in the sport course. Hopwood Junior High School student Erico Castro finished second with 41:31, followed by Cesar Fortaleza (41:32) and Rene Caiage (41:34).

Both championship and sport course riders kicked off from the bottom of Navy Hill with the latter going through Galaide Road and Lamar Trail.

The championship course riders passed Galaide Road, Sound of Music, and the Lamar Trail before heading to the bottom of Mt. Tapochau.
