Kaipat is Major League’s batting leader

Kaipat went 19-for-39 with a batting average of .487 – right above Jesus Iguel (17-for-38) of the St. Michaels Angels.

Kaipat hit four doubles to beat Benwachi Taisacan (three), Peter Tomokane, and Manny Sablan, among others.

Kaipat scored a season-high 12 RBI, followed by Shane Mendiola’s 10 and Iguel’s nine.

Iguel scored the most runs with 20 under his belt. Runner-up John Reyes scored 14.

Jess Mesa hit two triples over the season and Greg Camacho struck an outstanding two home runs. Kaipat, Joe Palacios, and Juan Maratita hit one home run apiece.

D-9ers’ Chris Camacho trailed Iguel in the batting leaders’ board at a .419 average (18-for-43). Shell Fielders’ Ryan Ada went 12-for-38 at a .316 average and Mendiola (11-for-39) had .282.

Fielders’ pitcher Elton Santos topped the charts at 72 strikeouts. Ol’ Aces’ Jacob Babauta scored 68 strikeouts and Brewers’ Vince Cepeda posted 61.

Playoffs continue

The Saipan Major League’s best-of-three quarterfinals between the Fielders, Brewers, Angels, and D-9ers started yesterday, but results weren’t available during press time. Winners proceed to a best-of-five championship series.

All games take place at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
