DANDAN Middle School won the boys middle school division championship of the PSS-NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League SY24-25 by edging Hopwood Middle School V, 2-1, in a nail-biting title match at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville on Thursday.
In the first half, DMS took control early by breaking through the weakside defense, allowing Jpiel Calsita to find the back of the net in the second minute.
For the next 15 minutes, HMS V adjusted accordingly and managed to hold their own. After many attempts, the team was finally rewarded with their first goal of the match — thanks to Michy Depich Jr. — in the 17th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
However, DMS answered with their second goal in the 20th minute courtesy of Zhi Jin to regain the upper hand, 2-1.
Throughout the second half, both teams fought vigorously for possession, but neither managed to score again — giving DMS the win and the championship.
HMS and Saipan International School settled for second and third place, respectively.
The Golden Boot Award went to Tanapag Middle School’s Casmiro Cosmes while DMS’ Zhi Jin was named the Most Valuable Player.
