Jawn Joyner shot for eight points during the first period of the game followed by two reverse layups and a charity from teammate Junar Guiab while Elmer Esdrelon shut the first kanto shot with a jumpshot to nab a 3 point lead, 15-12.
It was all over for the Madduh Bikers after Guiab knocked down another ten points for team Konflikt to be the 113th Philippines Independence Day Three on Three Basketball Tournament champions, 33-25.
“We would like to thank the UFO President Bong Malasarte and every UFO organization for their complete support of this year’s Three on Three tournament,” said table official Rex Yabut in an interview with the Marianas Variety.
“The Basketball Association of the Northern Marianas Islands and its referee association headed by Mr. Gabriel White was an instrument in this successful event. Moreover we know that this is one way, among the several, BANMI contributed to the community,” explained Yabut.
The champions of the tournament will be awarded their trophies at the United Filipino Organization’s Basketball Tournament slated to kick off on July 10.
“All winners and their coaches are expected to attend the opening ceremony so that they may be recognized and awarded properly,” said Yabut.
The three on three competition held last Sunday was governed by the FIBA 33 rules where the game is divided into two five minute periods.
The first team to reach 33 points wins. If there is a situation where no team reached 33 points, the team with the highest point tally wins.
The coordinators of the 113th Philippines Independence Three on Three Basketball tournament would like to thank Ricardo Alejandro, Bong Marquez, Mr. Olpindo, and Marc Venus.
“Next year will be more exciting because we will have more time to prepare and I hope that more teams will participate in next year’s basketball tournament,” added Yabut.
