Man arrested for sexually abusing daughter

Govendo remanded the 35-year-old defendant to the custody of the Department of Corrections after his initial appearance and bail hearing yesterday afternoon.

Variety is not disclosing his name due to the nature of the case.

Police arrested the defendant on Tuesday night in Koblerville.

He is being held on the charge of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree.

Assistant Attorney General Peter Prestley represented the government while the court appointed Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig as the defendant’s counsel.

Detective Flora Danica B. Aguon said the victim’s mother reported the incident to the police on May 24, at about 1:25 p.m.

While on their way home from the church on Sunday evening, the mother learned the incident after the victim informed her that she did not want to sleep in their house because the defendant sexually abused her.

The abuse occurred on May 23, at about 1 a.m., the victim told police.

A doctor at the Commonwealth Health Center told police the examination revealed the victim had been sexually abused.
