Taylor Watanabe took second place after cruising to the winners’ bracket by beating Nizer Masayos, Ron Chisato, and Ken Phillips.
Chisato defeated Norman Tenorio. Phillips surpassed Kapileo and Mei Rengiil before falling to Watanabe. Rengiil handed Patrick Cepeda his first loss.
Masayos eliminated Tenorio and Rengiil, but Kapileo marched through Cepeda, Chisato, Masayos, and Phillips to reach the finals.
He scrambled for two close wins to snatch the $48 first place money from Watanabe. Watanabe received $32.
Sunday was a long day for most competitors. Earlier in the day, the Saipan Billiards Association held its awards banquet. The survivors who made it to USSP enjoyed a closely-played tournament.
The USSP Club’s Sunday 8-ball tournaments are played in double-elimination format, following Billiard Congress of America rules. Entry fee is $10. Registration starts at 7:30 p.m.
