BJ Rolinski from the sister island of Guam secured a remarkable double victory during the Marianas Surf Skate League’s 2025 Boogie Down at Obyan bodyboarding competition, claiming gold medals in both the Men’s Open Division and the Drop Knee (DK) Division on Saturday at Obyan Beach.
The finals featured four competitors: Rolinski, Herman Guerrero, Frank Ramon, and Vincent Villagomez.
Rolinski, who previously won the Open Bodyboard Division at the 2025 Ricks Reef Classic in Guam, carried his skill and momentum into the finals for a head-to-head battle with Guerrero. Both riders delivered highlights with flawless el rollo executions and occasional backflip attempts. Ramon and Villagomez added excitement with 360 spins but were outmatched by the dominant duo’s point-scoring aggression.
After 20 minutes of tricks and tight scoring, Rolinski took the win with a total score of 6.34, narrowly edging out Guerrero, who finished at 6.33. Ramon finished third with 5.50 points, with Villagomez fourth at 4.60.
Rolinski secured his second gold in the Drop Knee Division, facing another fierce contest and taking first place with a final score of 4.77—showcasing his versatility with a unique mix of bodyboarding and surfing techniques.
Herman Guerrero claimed second place in the DK Division with 3.40, followed by Jacob Yamagishi at 3.00 and Joey Tudela at 2.87.
Rolinski shared that the competition was challenging, especially with Guerrero pushing him to his limits in the finals, and expressed appreciation for the drive among the local bodyboarders.
Beyond the contest, Rolinski praised the brotherhood and camaraderie of the local surf scene and thanked the organizers for fostering a positive, youth-oriented event that encourages ocean enjoyment and the growth of bodyboarding. “It’s all that camaraderie and brotherhood that I love about this event, and I’m glad to share the water with the boys, having a good time,” Rolinski said.
Sharing the spotlight, Kristina Anderson won the inaugural women’s open division with a total score of 2.60, while Kelsey McClellan finished second with 2.34.
