JACOB’S Bakeshop is headed to the playoffs of the Destroyers Basketball Club Invitational Basketball League 2024 after a blowout victory against Star Water, 92-57, at the TSL Sports Complex on Sunday.
Jacob’s Bakeshop finished fifth in the preliminary round.
In their game against Star Water, Jacob’s Bakeshop established control of the pace right from the start with Mark Aycardo opening the scoreboard with a triple. Teammate Manuel Gatbonton then delivered nine points while Andrew Sy contributed 12 points.
Star Water lacked the firepower as only Jan Godoy could finish at the rim. His 12 points were not enough.
For their part, Irvin Malonzo and Aycardo of Jacob’s Bakeshop kept the fuel burning with a combined 16 points to stretch the deficit to double digits, 40-22.
In the second half, Star Water gained confidence as the rest of the team began to pitch in their fair share. Arjay Giron sizzled with 14 points while De Shawn Adelbai and Boddie Barrios put up eight and six points, respectively.
However, they failed to have their presence felt on the defensive end as Jacob’s Bakeshop fired at will from beyond the arc to sink 10 triples with Sy, James Repulda and Gab De Guzman finishing strong with four consecutive buckets to end the game with a bang, 92-57.
The playoffs will kick off next Sunday, deciding which teams advance to the semifinals.
The games will start at 8:30 a.m. Saipan Tigers (4) will face Jacob’s Bakeshop (5), followed by Savemore (3) vs Team Underground (6), GMP x Yuman (2) vs Star Water (7), and Islander Rent-A-Car (1) vs Triskelion (8).
