THE Lady Blue Jays won the title for the third time in a row by outlasting BDE, 7-5, in game 2 of the ladies division championship series of the 2024 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League at the Dandan baseball field on Sunday.

In the first inning, the Lady Blue Jays played the role of the aggressor as first at bat Destiny Pangelinan nearly rounded the bases, but was met with three outs before she had the opportunity to reach home. BDE had the same result as they only had one runner on base before three outs were gathered to end the opening inning.

BDE quickly bagged two outs in the top of the second inning, but an untimely error allowed Lady Blue Jays’ Cindy Serrano to capitalize off the flyout and slip past home for the first run of the game, 1-0.

While BDE continued to struggle on the offensive end, the Lady Blue Jays continued to stretch the lead with two more runs added in the top of the third inning highlighted by Kiana Camacho and Christy Aldan contributing an RBI single each to make it 3-0.

During the fifth inning BDE finally got out of the gutter, scoring two runs off defensive errors.  However, the Lady Blue Jays retaliated with two more runs to remain at a safe distance, 5-2.

The Lady Blue Jays attempted to put the lead out of reach with an RBI single by Carey Demapan in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, BDE took advantage of the Lady Blue Jays’ errors to score three runs that brought BDE back within reach, 6-5.

The Lady Blue Jays kept their cool and managed to sneak in a single run aided by Alannah Sablan for an RBI. Sablan’s contribution was enough to keep their momentum burning as they followed up with three consecutive outs to seal the deal, 7-5.

“It’s a very overwhelming surprise,” said Lady Blue Jays coach, Froilan Camacho. “I thank my team and sponsors for bringing my girls together to play one more time. We had a good competition this year with better players and more confidence on the part of the other teams.”
