FOREIGN diplomats are proposing the creation of a protocol office in CNMI to ensure a more effective way of handling relations with representatives of foreign offices.
“We need…a protocol office that we could easily approach whenever we have concerns,” Japanese Consul Takeo Saito said in a recent meeting.
Saito said he encountered some situations that could have been handled more efficiently if such an office existed.
Other consular officials present in the gathering agreed—Philippine Consul General Julia Heidemann, Palau Consul Eileen N. Kintol and South Korean Consul Woo Chung Rhee.
Gov. Juan N. Babauta said the proposal would be immediately looked into for consideration.
“It’s really good that we’re getting such feedback. We intend to improve our services in this area,” he said.
CNMI hosts thousands of foreigners. Out of its 70,000, population, some 20,000 are Filipinos, 15,000 are Chinese, over a thousand are Japanese, over 2,000 are Koreans and over 1,600 are Palauans.
