Man will spend 1 more week in jail for gun sale

THE federal court has sentenced to time served plus one week a man convicted for conspiracy to the illegal sale of guns on Saipan.

U.S. District Court Judge Alex R. Munson said the one week holding period on Guam was for the purpose of giving defendant Lin Wan Biao the opportunity to apply for asylum if he wishes to do so.

Munson said upon release from jail, Lin will be delivered to an authorized immigration official and remain outside the U.S. during the term of his supervised release.

Lin has been in custody since his arrest on April 19.

Court papers showed that Lin and co-defendant Zheng Jian Shan were indicted with conspiracy to deal firearms without a license, dealing in firearms without a license.

Zheng was also charged with three counts of possession of firearm and ammunition by an illegal alien.

Lin entered a plea agreement with the U.S. government. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to deal firearms without a license.
