THE administration has identified funding to pay the salaries of Rota’s municipal employees.
Sen. Ricardo S. Atalig said acting Gov. Diego T. Benavente assured him that Rota’s eight resident directors will be paid by Friday.
Atalig, R-Rota, said the $106,000 savings from various completed capital improvement projects will be reprogrammed to pay the salaries of 106 municipal employees.
He said it will cost the government $106,000 to keep these employees working at the island’s Mayor’s Office until the end of the fiscal year.
“We are very fortunate that the acting governor helped us in resolving the problem,” Atalig said.
Rota lawmakers met with administration officials yesterday to discuss the financial problems of the island’s municipal government.
Due to lack of funding, 109 municipal employees could lose their jobs by the end of the month. Moreover, Rota’s eight resident directors have not been paid since January.
