THE agreement signed by the United States and Japan on tourism and export expansion includes the creation of an attaché for commercial and tourism promotion, Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio said.
He said he will meet with federal officials to discuss the inclusion of the CNMI in the attaché’s promotional efforts.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald L. Evans signed the tourism expansion agreement on April 19 with Japan’s Minister for Land, Infrastructure and Transport Chikage Oogi.
“I will meet with Department of State officials to follow up on some of the things that we talked about regarding the need to (include) the CNMI as part of the U.S. attaché for commercial or tourism promotions,” Tenorio said.
Tenorio said he will focus on tourism once he returns to Washington. He said the planned summit next month of the consuls general would result in a “subsidiary agreement” similar to the memorandum of understanding signed in Japan.
