A WOMAN was arrested for allegedly leaving her two children, including an infant, inside a car so she could play poker on Friday morning.
Delora Taman Hossuin, 22, was detained at the Division of Corrections for child neglect and abuse.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Pete C. Muna yesterday said Hossuin’s two children were taken by the Division of Youth Services.
Muna said a concerned citizen called the police regarding the unattended children in a vehicle parked in front of Sun Leader in San Antonio.
At 10:39 a.m., Officer Anthony Campos arrived and saw a girl possibly under five years old in the front driver’s seat.
Campos also observed an infant placed in a carrier on the back seat of the car. The officer noted that the windows of the vehicle were rolled down, but the children were sweating.
When asked by the police officer, the girl identified her mother as “Dolores,” but she did not say where she was at that time.
Campos went inside Sun Leader and asked the people if there was a Dolores in the store.
When no one answered, the officer proceeded to the nearby poker establishment where he saw Hossuin playing poker.
As the officer approached, Hossuin immediately withdrew her credit points. When confronted about the children, the suspect allegedly begged to be given another chance.
Last April 10, her husband filed a complaint against her for allegedly abandoning their three children, including a two-month-old baby, at their house in Susupe.
Mohammed Mokbul Hossuin told the police that it was not the first time his wife left their children in the apartment. He said his wife likes to play poker.
Last December, two federal agents arrested Delora T. Hossuin for allegedly playing poker while leaving her two children unattended at their apartment.
