PAGO PAGO (Samoa News/PINA) — American Samoa Gov. Tauese Sunia has been invited to Samoa’s Independence Day celebrations, this year marking the 40th anniversary as an independent nation.
His special assistant, Leiataua B. Alailima, said the governor will attend but the delegation to accompany him is still being decided.
There are also reports that at least three local groups have been invited to participate.
The latest report out of Apia says there is a large delegation from New Zealand attending. Prime Minister Helen Clark will lead this.
While Independence Day is June 1, a Saturday, the celebration is set for two-days starting June 3. Other dignitaries from the region are also been invited.
