OFFICIALS from the U.S. and its territories in the Pacific convene today and tomorrow in Hawaii to tackle issues affecting oceans, climate, fisheries, coastal management and coral reefs.
The U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy’s Hawaii and Pacific Islands regional meeting will have CNMI’s Resident Representative to Washington, D.C. Pete A. Tenorio as one of the guest speakers.
Benny Pangelinan, the coastal projects coordinator of the Coastal Resources Management, will also be representing the CNMI in the two-day event.
“While the CNMI is not a member of this commission, the meeting will give us a lot of information on current issues and solutions to problems in regard to the ocean and the marine environment,” Pangelinan told Variety last week.
The first day of the event includes discussions on the management of international living resources.
Tomorrow, the presentations will include tourism, development and coastal management; coral reefs; oceans and climate; and, ocean use and management.
“The CNMI shares the same problems and issues with other Pacific islands, and I and Mr. Tenorio will do the best we can to share what we will be learning from this event,” said Pangelinan.
