HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Residents living in the area of Route 8 Biang Street to Canada Toto Road in Mongmong-Toto-Maite are advised to boil their faucet water.
The Guam Waterworks Authority issued a precautionary boil water notice Sunday as a result of an extended water outage.
“Customers in a portion of the water system have experienced reduced pressure, which may pose a risk to customers,” a GWA news release said.
GWA noted that harmful bacteria may be present in the water, such as fecal coliform and E. coli.
“Microbes in these waters can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other (symptoms). They pose a special health risk for infants, young children, and people with severely compromised immune systems,” the release said.
GWA said the water should not be consumed or used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation without boiling it first.
Residents in the affected area should continue to boil their water until GWA issues the all-clear.
“As production and pressure in the system is restored, GWA will ensure that the system is sampled and tested, and chlorine levels and pressures have been confirmed to be within acceptable levels and your drinking water is safe to drink,” the release said.
GWA will advise residents when tests confirm no bacteria is present in the water.
