Telesource: Tinian fuel supply good for 4 days only

But CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna said Mobil made a fuel delivery to Telesource yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, Telesource said that while it understands CUC’s shortfall, it could no longer borrow or allocate funds to support its Tinian operation because of the agency’s nonpayment of its financial obligation.

Earlier, Telesource announced that CUC had failed to meet its May 2008 Note and the fees for the production, operation and maintenance of  the Tinian plant.

By June 15, Telesource said, it will no longer be able to purchase spare parts or lubrication oil for its engines.

Muna said CUC ordered the fuel on Wednesday, and has not been neglectful of its obligation in terms of fuel transfer to Tinian.

The fuel order amounted to $347,699.

Telesource has an average load of 4 megawatts of power production on Tinian with an installed operating capacity of 20 megawatts.

“Due to this fact Telesource runs its power plant on Tinian at a loss and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future,” the company stated.

It added, “Telesource has been and will always be a dedicated and a loyal member of the CNMI community. Nonetheless, all reasonable people will recognize that non-payment by CUC will cause disruption in power services on Tinian.”

Telesource also said that “contrary to public reports,” it has not been paid $357,000 for past due amounts owed to it by CUC.
