Asahi upset Tokahao in Belau softball

ASAHI and Peleliu highlighted  the games of the Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League on Sunday after upsetting their respective opponents at the Dandan baseball field.

Asahi rallied their way past Tokahao, 17-14.

Asahi drew first blood with a solo run, thanks to Dominic Hideo’s RBI single, but this was quickly answered by Tokahao with a solo homer from first at bat, Manny Villagomez, before adding five more runs to grasp the lead, 6-1.

Asahi slowly made their way back with five runs in the top of the fourth inning while holding Tokahao to just one run for a 7-6 lead.

However, in the bottom of the fourth, Tokahao managed to gain the distance after Jeff Cruz’s three-run homer along with Mark Villagomez’s RBI single for an 11-6 lead.

After each team scored one run in the fifth inning, Asahi found their second wind in the top of the sixth with Darwin Masaharu, Allen Teliu, and Edgar Ito contributing for a five-run rally to even the score, 11-11.

Tokahao answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Asahi unleashed another barrage of  hits in the top of the seventh and final inning to notch five runs while silencing Asahi with three straight outs to seal the deal, 17-14.

Also pulling an upset was Peleliu which denied Hagu Lamun a late-game comeback, 11-9.
