PSS won the 2023 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government/Business League championship by outlasting Priority Care, 86-73, on Monday at the Ada gym.
During the first half, Priority Care showed their hunger to win.
Their team effort on both ends of the court was their biggest strength with Steve King recording a handful of steals. Paired with his ability to finish at the rim and shoot from beyond the arc, he delivered 12 points while teammates Alfred Manglona and Marvin Rabauliman cleaned up the mess from inside the paint to give Priority Care a comfortable lead, 26-19.
PSS tried to build momentum in the second canto with three-pointers by Preston Basa, but suffered on the defensive end with a handful of fouls while Priority Care’s Matthew Duenas delivered the buckets to maintain the lead, 43-35.
In the third period, however, PSS turned the tables and made their presence known defensively. Priority Care, who was in control of the pace, could only score nine team points while PSS unleashed a flurry of triples thanks to Basa, Derek Olopai, Roger Valencia, and Tyler Palacios as their team seized the lead for the first time, 62-52.
Priority Care tried everything to close the distance, but failed to prevent PSS’s Melvin Sakisat, Derek Olopai and Basa from scoring a total of 18 points to secure victory, 86-73, and the championship.
