ASIDE from conducting a coaches workshop, retired WNBA player Annie La Fleur also touched base with the Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation referees and other individuals who want to be referees.
La Fleur on Monday last week worked with 16 individuals, and instructed them on the rules and mechanics of refereeing.
“It’s really about understanding the rules such as calling the fouls and signaling the score bench and reporting the sequence,” said La Fleur, who is also the FIBA Oceania National Federation and sport development manager.
During the workshop, she emphasized the movements and placements of referees on the court.
La Fleur likewise conducted a free workshop on Friday that was attended by five individuals, four of whom were women.
On Saturday morning, the 14 and under members of the Rollers and MadFlex basketball clubs scrimmaged while La Fleur explained rotations and the mechanics of “controlling the tempo.”
“Now it’s about working with them on their plans, conducting more workshops and what the topics will be — what their calendar will look like in the next four months,” La Fleur said.
