The free training sessions, provided through a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, are being held at the multi-purpose center in Susupe.
“We travel around the mainland and the U.S. territories to work with first response personnel like medical staff, fire department staff, community disaster services folks, and educate them on how to treat patients and respond to emergency situations,” instructor John Rinard of the Texas Engineering Extension Service said in an interview yesterday.
Rinard said “this is the second class we are conducting on Saipan, The last one was in 2004 but we also conducted some other classes here in the past.”
Conducting the training with Rinard are William L. Arnold and Ernie Whitener.
Training coordinator Henry J. Yarofalpiy from the CNMI Emergency Management Office said similar programs have been offered in the past.
