Minto Minto, however, was found not guilty ofthe other two counts for solicitation and of conspiracy to commit marriage fraud.
The verdict was reached by the six-panel jury after a three-day trial that started on Monday.
Minto’s defense lawyer was Steven Pixley while Assistant Attorneys General Melissa Simms and Katie Busenkell represented the government.
Superior Court Judge David A. Wiseman set the sentencing for Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. but he ordered the Office of the Adult Probation to submit a pre-sentence investigation report by Sept. 18.
As part of his sentence, Minto was ordered to report to the Office of Adult Probation.
Minto was charged with three other defendants — Maria Aurelio Ray, Saiful Islam and Munnaf Miah.
According to the information filed by the AG’s Office in court, Minto and the other defendants unlawfully agreed to arrange marriages between Islam and Alisilynn Mallens, and between Miah and Severene Kosam for the purpose of obtaining labor and immigration benefits in March 2007.
Simms argued in court that Minto’s permit expired in 2005 and he needed to get married fast to be able to stay here longer.
Ray was the first to undergo jury trial last May. She was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to commit marriage fraud, but she was acquitted of solicitation.
Miah, who was found guilty of soliciting marriage fraud, was acquitted of conspiring with other persons to commit marriage fraud last month. His sentencing was set for Sept. 17 at 9 a.m.
Islam’s trial was set for July 21 but he fled to Bangladesh before the trial could take place.
