Rep. Joseph C. Reyes, R-Saipan and the chairman of the Committee to Elect Tenorio, said: “Pete is no stranger to Washington and he’s been in politics, I would say, a lifetime so he’s not a rookie as far as experience is concerned. He will not be a man in Washington running around like a chicken without a head. He’s the best man for this office and I’m very confident that the Republican Party will take this election. We’re ready to rock and roll.”
He added, “This guy is most humble, intelligent and he gets things done.”
Tenorio submitted his petition as a candidate at around 2 p.m. on Friday at the Commonwealth Election Commission office with GOP President Ed Tenorio, other Republicans and family members.
“I’m very fortunate to be surrounded with some very loyal and strong friends and family members,” Washington Rep. Tenorio told reporters.
As the islands’ lt. governor for eight years, he represented the CNMI in 902 talks with the federal government. He was also a member of the NMI commission that negotiated the drafting of the Covenant with the U.S.
“This election is very important,” he said. “I encourage people to vote and I would like to see the majority of them vote for the best candidate but at the same time I hope that they vote for me.”
“I have been in this position, as a resident representative in Washington, D.C. for the last six and a half years. I have experienced working with members of Congress and the U.S. administration as I articulated our problems both to the U.S. Congress and the White House. My record speaks for itself — I brought a lot of benefits to the islands,” he added.
