Garapan skate park still under construction

Dennis Yoshimoto,  Saipan Rotary Club past president, yesterday said solar lighting is the last fixture that needs to be completed.

He noted that because the skate park is already being used, they are asking the skaters to take extra precaution and observe safety measures.

“We would just like to ask the community for their cooperation and patience as we wait for the final fixture to be installed but in the meantime, there’s nothing we can do to stop the skaters from using the skate park — all we can do is ask you all to be careful,” Yoshimoto said.

He added that they hope to have the solar lighting panels installed within this month.

Since construction was finished last month, the skating park has already attracted scores of skaters young and old.

The Saipan Rotary Club started to raise funds for the construction of the skate park project after realizing the great risks children faced as they skated on roadways and on the streets.

The Rotary Club hired the services of skate park specialist John Glaze from Indonesia to oversee the construction of the project.

Glaze earlier told the Variety that the park has unique design, resembling a three-quarter bowl where one side tapers down to a defining ledge.
