LISS prepares winter camp

LISS — Dec. 2008 to Feb. 2009, Ladera International School of Saipan is focused on building up the winter camp study abroad programs for South Korea, Japan and China.

The winter camps will offer a variety of English learning opportunities for overseas students and students on the island.

“Aside from learning English, LISS will also be looking at offering computer classes, science experiments camps, library reading programs combined with research and presentation,” stated LISS Director Wayne Pangelinan.

Being at the forefront of developing the education-tourism element for the CNMI, LISS has been receiving tremendous support from the government.

“Communications on this industry with LISS continues as the current administration supports the movement of education-tourism,” said Secretary of Commerce Michael Ada. LISS is expected to bring in approximately 100 students from December to January.

“Our children in the CNMI are invited to participate in these learning experiences.  During the Christmas breaks, we welcome our children to register and partake in these opportunities,” Pangelinan said.

From January to Feb. 2009, LISS will open after-school programs to keep children occupied and be productive in becoming lifelong learners.

“With our experience in pushing the education-tourism market for the CNMI, we avail these opportunities to our children in the CNMI where they can make new friends, enjoy profound knowledge in an educational atmosphere,” said Susan Satur, LISS 3rd grade teacher.

“LISS being involved with making and developing change in the commonwealth towards education is a worthwhile experience for me as I know we at LISS are doing something right,” Satur added.

The winter camp opportunities come in on a first come first serve basis. Call the school for more details at 288-2006.
