Farmer ‘outsmarts’ CUC smart meter

and Northern Islands Municipal Council and a local farmer.

He said they are disappointed with the leasee, whom he declined to identify.

Camacho said the nonresident farmer “outsmarted” CUC’s smart meter — and is stealing water from the agency to irrigate his employer’s farm plot in Obyan, near the airport.

He said the piece of land belongs to the Commonwealth Ports Authority and is not even leased for farming.

Camacho said the land was supposedly used only for grazing to raise livestock animals like cows and goats.

He said they later learned that the land was being used for farming.

CUC and the Department of Public Safety are still investigating the illegal tapping case, he added, and local farmers now think the authorities should also question the person who leased the land from CPA.
