Contingent team from Malaysia eyeing for possible investments in Palau

The Delegation headed by Lord Morris Davidson left Palau on Wednesday but before they left, they met the Governors of the States on Tuesday night.

Governors of Kayangel, Ngarechlong, Ngaraard, Ngiwal, Melekeok, Ngechsar, Airai, Ngeremlengui, Ngardmau, Peleliu, Angaur, Hatohobei, and Sonsorol came and met Davidson, a Malaysian businessman engaged in construction business, mostly residential developments and Architect Wan Burhanuddin Wan Hassan.The group discussed possible investments and what they can do to develop each States.Davidson shared with the Governors the history of the economic boom of Malaysia and how did it happened.Davidson said Malaysia started to boom when they started planting Palm Oil and Rubber trees.He said Malaysia ranked number one in plantation in the world when it comes to Palm Oil and Rubber trees.He said there is a chance that Palau will also boom if these idle lands will be utilized properly.Davidson invited the Governors to come to Malaysia to see how the plantation works for them.Davidson in an interview said that the purpose of the meeting is to get acquainted with the new government and to see how they can carry on with the investment that Malaysia has already looking for quite some time.“We’re happy to be here and to meet the President and the Governors. Since the President is very pro-investment, so we came to see Palau and to see what we can do to help Palau,” he said.“I came here to study Palau and to see what Malaysia can invest here. Malaysia can help in terms of education, hospitalization, plantation and development,” he added.Governor Lazarus Kodep, Chairman of the Governor Association in a separate interview said that the meeting was good and he is open to the idea of building a plantation in Melekeok State.“Maybe we can also try the Palm Oil and the Rubber plantations here. We can only work this out once Malaysia and Palau establish diplomatic ties. Right now, it’s still in the process,” he said.
