It is believed that the diplomat, who has worked in Papua New Guinea for more than three years, will remain jobless after Bainimarama ordered his recall for not living up to official duties.
He confirmed that Ratu Isoa was recalled to Fiji in the week leading up to the Pacific Island Forum meeting but would not detail the reasons.
“It’s none of your business,” Bainimarama said.
“Yes I asked him to come back to Fiji, but no, not at this time, I will not comment on his recalling,” he told the Post-Courier.
The Post-Courier also asked Bainimarama if Ratu Isoa had returned to Fiji because the Fiji office in Port Moresby refused to comment on the issue.
He said: “Did you ask him? You should call the office in Port Moresby to ask them.”
When the paper responded that we could not reach the person and the office concerned Bainimarama said: “He should have already been in Fiji by now.”
He said Ratu Isoa’s recall was still a sensitive issue and that he would provide the details later.
Bainimarama also said another Fijian envoy to represent the country in PNG should be due in the country as soon as papers were sorted out and negotiations completed.
He did not give any timeframe but assured Fiji would be well represented in PNG soon.
Bainimarama said there were still officers in the office in Port Moresby who would carry out official duties while the recall was still being sorted out.
The Post-Courier however understands that Ratu Isoa was recalled for making Bainimarama “look stupid” by not delivering Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare’s letter on time.
