Demei in an interview on Wednesday said that Bureau of Land and Survey has a licensed surveyor in the person of Alejandro Caraig.
Caraig whose title is National Surveyor is not a local but Demei said they are now in legal process where Caraig will be approving other cadastral lots from other maps.Demei said Palau has only two local certified surveyors before and they were former Minister Fritz Koshiba and Benjamin Mangloi.Mangloi retired several years ago while Koshiba left the government service in January 15.Caraig has been working for the Bureau for over ten years now.A licensed surveyor is the one who approve cadastral maps that the Bureau of Land and Surveys prepare. The Bureau sent the maps to the land court and the land court will issue certificate of titles to any land owners base on those maps. Demei said aside from Caraig, they also have other employees within the Bureau who review and certify the maps even if they are not licensed surveyors.Meanwhile Demei said there are currently five professionals who are waiting for confirmation before the Senate. They are Atty. Roman Bedar, Atty. J.Uduch Sengebau-Senior, former Minister Koshiba, Architect Ted Ueda, Structural/Civil Terangue E. R. “Tiger” Gillham. They are recommended by President Toribiong to become members of the Board for the Land Surveyors Examiners.Their names are now under review by the House Committee on CIP.
