Dr. Chip Fletcher and Dr. Bruce Richmond are visiting the FSM to assess the extent and consequences of coastal erosion in each state.
They will meet with government officials to initiate the development of a comprehensive coastal protection strategy and work to improve the understanding of the effects of coastal erosion and its acceleration as a result of sea level rise, as well as the ability to provide for ecosystem services and support the existing populations.
Environment and technical staff from relevant agencies in each state will be working with the visitors to coordinate the assessment arrangements and other needs they might have that are vital for a successful visit.
