Track and field championship has good turn out for All Schools meet

Almost a hundred students from 13 schools in elementary, junior high and high school levels participated in last Saturday’s annual championship meet which served as the qualifier for the McDonald’s All Schools Meet.

Tournament coordinator, Robin Eugenio said the championship also gave NMI 18-and-under athletes the opportunity to prepare themselves for the qualifying tournament for Regional Championship in August, Micronesian Area Championship in Gold Coast, Australia, Mini Pacific Games in Cook Islands, Youth World Championships in Italy and IAAF World Championship in Berlin, Germany.

It also allowed Jack Kabiriel, Matthew Mancao and other home grown athletes to flex their muscle for the qualifying round for 2009 Oceania Area Marathon & Half Marathon Championship that will be held on July 5 in Gold Coast, Australia.

More 75 students from private and public elementary schools proved they can still win in the annual McDonald’s championship.

The schools that participated in the 14-and-under bracket include Kagman Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, Tanapag Elementary School, Saipan International School, Saipan Community School, Whispering Palms School and William S. Reyes Elementary School.

In the 18-and-under, the students who joined are from Hopwood Junior High, Chacha Junior High, Northern Marianas Academy, Marianas High School, Kagman High School and Saipan Southern High School.
