Gus Kaipat performs at California State University
LOCAL musician Gus Kaipat, lead singer of Olomwaay, performed solo recently at the California State University during the pre-screening of a soon-to-be completed PBS documentary titled “Insular Empire: America in the Marianas.”
Kaipat was in California earlier this month to work with award-winning editor and sound mixer and composer Todd Boekelheide, who was hired to compose the score for “Insular Empire.”
Film director, co-producer and cinematographer Vanessa Warheit of Horse Opera Productions told Kaipat: “I really want to include your ‘local’ sensibilities and musical talent in the score.”
This important documentary explores the political relationship between the United States, Guam, and the Northern Marianas.
