The day started out with the registration of runners at the Palau National Track and Field for the 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer walk and run to promote healthy living where everybody was a winner despite of coming in first or last to the finish line. After which, all early birds of hundred walkers and joggers were given free t’shirts that explains the purpose of the warnings and signs of tobacco use. In addition, people who came for the event were also treated for a light healthy breakfast that composed of fruits and bread after the run and walk. Raffle prizes such as gift certificates from Surangel RAW store, a night stay at the Palau Pacific Resort, a beauty makeover at different beauty salons around the island, and cash prizes from various donors of the said occasion were also awarded to lucky winners.
The half day event ended were everybody had fun and was informed of the risks and bad effect of using tobacco in their lives.The 2009 World No Tobacco Day 5k / 10k walk and run contest is sponsored by Palau Women and Sports Commission, The Coalition Tobacco Free Palau, and Tobacco use Prevention and Coalition Program
