Labor activates new Web site feature for jobseekers

Labor’s employment services and training division director, Alfred Pangelinan, said the Web site now provides an electronic screening of jobseekers with the help of the occupational network system or O-Net.

The system, Pangelinan said, will automatically inform online job applicants if they are qualified for the position they are applying for.

This system will work efficiently if an applicant submitted a complete and accurate resume when he registers with Labor.

Pangelinan said they are asking all local applicants to seek Labor’s help when completing their resumes.

Incomplete resumes will not be accepted and those who submitted them will be advised to call the Division of Employment Services and Training and meet with its job placement assistance officers.

A revised version of the dictionary of occupational titles, the O-Net is a federally regulated system that provides job applicants an inventory test and career counseling, Pangelinan said.

It tests and advises the applicant with regards to his skills, ability, education and training, he added.

So when an applicant enters information about his skills and qualifications the system will automatically tell him whether he is qualified for the job he’s applying for, Pangelinan said.

Once the applicant passes the system’s test, he added, the employer should not have an excuse to reject him.
