Company president Steve Nutting and vice president Jack McClure awarded certificates of completion to graduates.
According to McClure, 14 employees completed extensive year- long training required for technical certification aboard the sub.
Submarine “Deepstar” operates in the Saipan lagoon, providing tourist guests and locals an underwater view of the beautiful lagoon.
McClure said the submarine is a modern technical vessel requiring specific training under the strict control of the American Bureau of Shipping and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Federal authorities inspect the submarine frequently for vessel condition and crew certification.
The thorough submarine inspections can be compared to the intense commercial aircraft inspection programs.
“Our employees and graduates include technical people from many areas of expertise. We employee submarine pilots, co-pilots and technicians with backgrounds in electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics and other technical skills. Our staff and crews must be certified in the specifics of this particular class of submersible and apply their technical skills to support the vessel,” McClure said.
Under U.S. law, officers aboard this submarine must be American citizens and hold U.S. Merchant Marine documents for this specific vessel and be supported with technicians who maintain the vessel under a strict planned maintenance system.
Training and certification are conducted according to U.S.-approved training programs.
