President Johnson Toribiong and other Palauan officials attended the festivity held at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center which is also part of the activities in live with the goodwill visit of the Taiwanese fleet.
The Taiwan community prepared a lion dance and showcased the preparation of zongzi or large rice wraps.The zongzi is traditionally eaten on this Chinese holiday. Members of the Taiwanese community taught Palauans who joined the celebration the making of zongzi.Zongzi is a sticky rice with fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves.President Johnson Toribiong also thanked crewmembers of the fleet for the visit to Palau.He said with their visit, commerce has improved.The president encouraged the navy cadets to come back here in Palau and visit as tourists.The fleet comprised of 2 La Fayette class frigates, Cheng-De, and Wu-Chang as well as 500 navy officers, soldiers and cadets from Taiwan’s Naval Academy.The fleet arrived on Palau Monday morning and left yesterday morning.
