PPUC said that the maintenance works are being performed during the low peak demand and during the weekend to minimize power outage.
“While the power supply is being maintained as normally as possible, every step is taken to secure that power outage is kept to a minimal, “the statement said.PUUC has also acquired a new Electrical Engineer from the Philippines.The position, according to a statement from PPUC is critical to the operation as it involves all aspect of the transmission and distribution maintenance, the substation maintenance and line expansion as well as the technical aspect and surveying and estimating of new power hook-ups, meter calibration and geographical information of the power system in Palau.Mechanics are also being recruited from the Philippines to maintain the PPUC engines and train local personnel.A Memorandum of Understanding has also been forged between Palau and PPUC to enable to power up the Ngerulmud stand by generator at the Capitol building in Melekeok.The generator is powered up during peak hours.The engine output of the generator is 2 megawatt which equals to the load demand in Babeldaob area.
