IT&E draws huge crowd of jobseekers

“We opened the Job Fair before 9 a.m. but as early as 7 a.m. there was already a long line of applicants waiting,” Harrell said.

Harrell said the job fair was held to collect applications to fill in positions for 250 to 300 employees for a Call Center Expansion in the CNMI.

The job positions would be for full and part-time entry level and first level management positions.

Harrell said applicants were very upbeat and were up to the requirements for the job.

“This shows the workforce is behind us in supporting this new industry with the demise of the garment industry,” he said.

“We could use the results of this job fair to show the government that people are here to support this industry and to show our clients and potential customers that CNMI can meet the need for even 400 employees,” he added.

IT&E worked with the Workforce Investment Agency in interviewing and keeping log of all the applicants.

Harrell was positive they will be able to meet their target number of applicants for various positions after the job fair.

Among the requirements is that the applicant must have completed high school or its equivalent, able to speak and understand English, be able to use a computer and type/input at the rate of 23 words per minute, 16 years old and above based on the CNMI Labor law, and must be legally authorized to work in the CNMI.

Harrell earlier said the actual hiring of the candidates who were interviewed for positions last Saturday for the possible call center expansion may take 60-90 days.

He said the call center preparations are based on current negotiations and will enter the next stage as soon as the Qualifying Certificate conditions are finalized.
